Everett Peterson was one of the original members of the High Country Barbershop Chorus, starting at the time the Chorus was formed by Doc Dockendorf in the year 2000. Everett has sung in several, if not most of the music groups in the area, currently singing Tenor in the Chorus, and singing with the Fat Chance Band, a very active group in the White Mountains. Everett has been a consistent contributor to the chorus, has sung in the Pine Tones Quartet for many years, and now in the Pine Trails Quartet. These quartets have been active in most or all of the Singing Valentines activities throughout the years. The Chorus Manager is the party to call to schedule a chorus or quartet performance. Everett was the “Barbershopper of the Year” for 2007.
Past President –Duane Krause
Duane was our librarian for the chorus music library 2015 -2018. He received the 2015 Spark Plug award, 2016 Director’s award and 2018 Barbershopper of the Year award. Duane also assisted with Public Relations in 2017, Advertising Chairman and Membership VP for 2018. His musical claim to fame includes being selected after audition to sing in the Minnesota Allstate Choir in 1961. He beat his opponent on the TV show Name That Tune in 1985 but missed the $100,000 final round to move on to the next show. He and his wife Karon and two sons have lived in Arizona since 1983 except for a few years in Maine. Karon lost a seven year battle against cancer in June 2018. The two were married fifty three years. Duane was the “Barbershopper of the Year” for 2017.

VP Marketing / PR – Jim Burden
James H. (Jim) Burden, sings lead in the High country Chorus and has been with the chorus for more than 13 years. James started singing barbershop back in 2003 with the Deserts Sounds Chorus in Casa Grande, Arizona. James has sung with the Ponderosa Pines Quartet, the Crook’s Trail and Knotty Pines quartets. He has served as VP of membership, VP public relations and board member at large several times. He is retired from the United States Military: Army, Air force, Air National Guard with a total of 27 years of service. James was the 2009 Barbershopper of the Year”.
VP Music – Tom Wallis
Tom was born in Montana and lived near Red Lodge, Mt. until he was a teen. The family relocated to Southern California. At 19, Tom was drafted into the Army where he spent 14 months in Viet Nam. He bacame a transport refrigeration tech, spending 35 years at the same company. Tom and his wife Merri were married in 1978, each of them bringing two boys into their blended family. Tom was a Boy scout master for several years. His barbershop life started in 1984 after he saw a show and was smitten. He joined what was then called the Pomona Valley Carousel Chorus. Tom has sung in several quartets over the years. In December of 2016, Tom and Merri relocated to Show Low, where they plan to live out their days in this beautiful place. He joined the High Country chorus shortly afterward.
Secretary – Don Murrow
Don was born in Ames, Iowa & raised on a farm 12 miles East of Des Moines, Iowa.He started singing at the ripe old age of 5, when he sang a duet in church with his 14 year old Sister. He has been singing ever since. Don lived in Alaska for 20 years, 11 of them at Prudhoe Bay, Ak. He lived in Phoenix, Az., for 30 yrs. and moved to Lakeside, Az. a few years ago. He has been married to Margie for 33 yrs. Don retired from America West Airlines on June 18, 2004. He joined the White Mountain Barbershop Chorus in November of 2012. Other than spending time with Margie, there is nothing he likes better than Harmonizing with the guys. Don received the “Barbershopper of the Year” award for 2015.
Tresurer – Jeff Walker
Jeff Walker is a business man offering Certified Public Accounting service in the White Mountains of Arizona. Jeff has been a lover of all genres of music from a young age and has participated in school choruses throughout his childhood and teenage years, as well as church choruses over his lifetime. He played the part of “Wildcat Kelly” in the Chorus’ 2018 summer show “Happy Trails II You”, and sings lead in the Chorus. This will be Jeff’s second year on the Board of Directors.
Jeff has been a resident of the White Mountains since 1987 and enjoys the outdoors, hiking, golf and four season climate of the mountains.
Member at Large – Mick Mitchke
Mick joined the chorus several years ago as a Lead but moved to Tenor. He was awarded the “Spark Plug Award” in 2016 and the “Barbershopper of the Year” for 2018. Many of the show sets were constructed by Mick and his team.

Ryan sings Tenor in the Chorus and this will be his first year on the board of directors.
